Tell us who you are, who you run with? And how long have you been running for?
James Hall, founder of SHYU socks and co-founder of our two year old son, Jax. I usually run solo as I struggle to fit work/family life around other peoples schedules, but honestly I quite like the quiet time. The exception to this is when I sometimes need a ‘chop-out’ for a long run, andi t’s then I look to none other than the chop-out GOAT, Junkyard Dog. I’ve been running for a long time, but started to take it more serious when I moved to Melbourne in 2021 and was absorbed by the cities incredible running culture.
Why do you run?
To push my boundaries, keep fit, set an example to my son, mental clarity and (most importantly), the kudos.
What motivated you to take on your chosen race this year?
I’m doing the ‘half marathon’ because it isn’t a half marathon! I’ve just come off a long training block for the Boston Marathon and now want to spend time running for fun, not for PBs. There are no PBs at the 24km distance so this will be perfect for me.
Do you have a goal?
Not get overtaken on a hill. I just made that up but i’ll stick to it.
What’s your favourite SHYU?
goat | peacock | sunrise - I love the name, the colours, and the match is perfect. pine | green | yellow from back in the day was also hard to beat.
Racing as part of Team SHYU, what does this mean to you?
A feeling of immense pride. I could never win a race individually but as part of a team… LFG!
