What does SHYU mean?
SHYU (pronounced ‘shoo’) is a combination of the words ‘shoe’ and ‘you’. We make performance running socks designed for you and your race days super shoe.
What is the difference between ‘Racing’ and ‘Training’ SHYUs?
The main difference is their purpose. The ‘racing’ SHYUs have been designed to complement your high performance racing shoe, whereas our ‘training’ SHYUs are more neutral in colour and are designed to complement any shoe and on any run. Because of this different purpose, you’ll find our ‘racing’ SHYU to be a little lighter with less overt cushioning around the ankle compared to its ‘training’ counterpart.
What are SHYUs made of?
SHYUs are made from a high-quality performance blend of 97% nylon, and 3% elastane. This ensures they dry quickly, do not absorb moisture, are stretchy and well fitted, remain comfortable, wash well and last much longer than a typical cotton blend sock.
Are SHYUs right for me?
Yes. We made a SHYU for every-foot.
What size should I get?
You can find a copy of our size guide here. We offer two or three sizes depending on the product, and find that the compression and stretchiness of a SHYU sock makes them more accommodating to different sized feet.
What is the difference between the heights?
We make SHYUs in three heights; half crew, quarter crew and no-show. Our half crew SHYU sits a little above 13cm from the foot, giving you sufficient support whilst maximising the opportunity to complement the shoe. We recently changed the design of our quarter crew design so the design can be seen just above the ankle when worn with a shoe. Our new no-show cut has all the same great features as the half crew and quarter crew, just less height. It sits at the base of the ankle and is generally not visible when worn with a shoe.
How should I look after my SHYUs?
To ensure they last as long as possible, you should:
- Hand or machine wash < 30º
- Never tumble dry
- Never use bleach
- Not use fabric softner
- Wash with like colours only
There may be a small amount of natural shrinkage after the first wash.
